COVID-19 Isolation Guidance

ALL ABSENCES DUE TO COVID-19 ISOLATION WILL BE CONSIDERED EXEMPT ABSENCES.  FAMILIES SHOULD CONTACT TEACHERS FOR MAKE-UP WORK.  

 

Isolation guidance for COVID-19 positive students:

Your COVID-19 positive student can return to school after:

  • 10 days since symptoms first appeared and
  • 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
  • Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving

NEW ON 1/24/22, Possible Shortened Isolation Time: Students may return to school on day 6 if they wear a wellfitting mask for 5 additional days. (Children < 2 years of age, people unable to wear a mask, people who choose not to wear a mask, people with moderate or severe illness and people who are immunocompromised must isolate for 10 days as stated above.) 

 

My child tested positive for COVID-19 but has no symptoms:

  • Your child can return to school after 10 days have passed since you had a positive viral test for COVID-19.

Guidance for students who are close contacts to a COVID-19 positive person:

North Tama supports the following options:

  • You can voluntarily quarantine your child at home if they are a close contact to someone with COVID-19.
  • You can choose to send your child to school.
    • The CDC recommends mask wearing for 14 calendar days after the student’s last contact with the COVID-19 positive individual.  Mask wearing at school is your personal choice and your decision will be honored.
    • Please monitor your child daily for COVID-19 symptoms, which can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms may be mild or severe. If symptoms develop, please keep your child home and contact your health care provider or Tama County Public Health for guidance:

If your child is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or otherwise meets North Tama’s Illness Guidelines please keep them home from school and seek guidance from your health care provider and/or Tama County Public Health.
